Use the Reader

Read comfortably, switch reading modes, adjust typography, and move through queued bookmarks.

Updated March 14, 2026

Increader comes with a built-in document reader. It is our attempt at providing a beautiful, customizable, and consistent reading experience, regardless of the source of your bookmarks. We strip out ads and other distractions from web articles and allow you to change typography settings to your heart’s content.

Open a bookmark in the reader

Open any bookmark from your library, collection, or queue to enter the reader view.

Increader restores your place automatically, so you can stop mid-document and come back later without losing context.

Switch between scrolling and paged reading

The reader supports two main reading modes:

  • Scrolling mode for a continuous document flow.
  • Paged mode for a more book-like experience with discrete page turns.

If you are using paged reading mode on a touch-enabled device like a phone or a tablet, we highly recommend toggling on Swipe to turn pages in the global app settings. This allows you to turn pages using touch gestures instead of using navigation buttons.

Adjust the reading view

Use the reader settings to tune the document for your eyes and your screen.

That includes typography controls like font family, font size, line height, text alignment, and font weight.

For documents that contain formulas, the reader can also render math more cleanly when math typesetting is enabled.

Math rendering is still in beta. It can behave inconsistently depending on how the source material chose to represent math symbols. We are working on making this more reliable.

The reading view is also affected by the selected theme in the Appearance settings. You can choose a light theme and a dark theme and toggle between them at any point during your reading session by clicking on the sun/moon symbol in the navigation bar.

Writing often contains interesting references to other articles. In Increader, you can preview these without leaving the page. Simply clicking on any link inside the reader will open a preview window that allows you to check out its contents. If the page is interesting, you can import it into your library immediately.

This is a great way to organically grow your library without breaking the flow of reading a bookmark.

Highlights and Annotations

While reading, you can highlight text by selecting a passage with your mouse cursor or your fingers. A menu will show up allowing you to select one of three colors for your highlight.

To add an annotation to a highlighted section, simply tap on it to open up its context menu. Here you can add notes or directly turn a highlight into a spaced-repetition card.

To see all the highlighted sections of the bookmark you’re in, press the Annotations button in the navigation bar.
